Advice From Real Couples: Things You NEED To Know

I reached out to dozens of couples and posed a simple question: “What’s one thing you wish you’d known before you started the wedding planning process?” I won’t bore you with some long drawn out intro, I know what you really want is the words directly from the couples mouths so here you go!

  1. Remember that it’s your day and you can’t please everyone

“You can not please everyone.  Its YOUR'S and YOUR FIANCE'S wedding day. Don't allow others to dictate their wants and don't allow anyone to question your decisions.”

“Stay true to what you want. Don’t let other people influence you even if they think their way is “the easy way” or “the cheaper way””

“Everyone will have an opinion. And it might be better to not tell all the details you are planning. Whether it's what kind of shoes you are planning to wear, the decor, the food ect. Because you might second guess yourself about something and then if you choose differently, you will probably regret it.”

“It’s YOUR DAY!!!! this will be the best day of your life so stop making it about everyone else.”

2. Hire a day-of-coordinator, even if you don’t have the budget for a full blown wedding planner

“I wish I had budgeted for a coordinator. I was so stressed and anxious trying to do all of it myself.”

“If you can afford it, pay for a day of coordinator/set up and tear down team!! I’m a control freak so I was involved in everything but I broke down at one point because it felt like work and not actually like my wedding day. I didn’t get to walk into the room feeling like a bride. It felt like a task. I didn’t feel like a bride until my hair and makeup team was getting me ready, and at that point I had to kick everyone else out of the room so I could decompress.”

“Hire a legitimate wedding coordinator/ planner. SO WORTH THE MONEY- I can not stress this enough.”

3. You get what you pay for

“Your photographer and videographer and coordinator and ushers are the most important folks.”

“Budget wise - spend more on pics than your cake. Put high on the list. When you are old like me - your pics are what you will have forever. “

“You get what you pay for. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

“A good photographer is worth the money. I paid $$$ for a local photographer even though my dad (who’s been a wedding photographer for 25+ years) offered one of his photographers for free. I knew the style I wanted. My sister let him provide the photographer for free, and her wedding pictures are not even close to good 😭”

“Pay the extra money for a photographer!!! Just do it! Also don’t worry about everyone else or you’ll have a mental break down! 💯”

P.S. I promise I didn’t pay these people to say this! These are real and unprovoked quotes from brides- complete with emojis and all.
